FRIDAY WORKSHOPS – Learn by doing

2PM:  nanoVNA  (WA1JXR) – Hands on workshop on using this inexpensive but powerful pocket-sized instrument, from basics to advanced measurments. If you have one (any version), bring it along so you can follow and participate in the demonstrations.

To follow hands on demonstrations, participants should bring a nanoVNA with two test cables, with the calibration kit and attenuator that came with it, if you can find them.  Also bring some items to test, such as a longer coax cable, a filter, or a battery powered amplifier.  Make sure the nanoVNA is charged.  A USB powerpack and cable are a good backup.

A stylus can make menu navigation easier – A pen with rubber tip at far end, or a pencil with an eraser will do fine.

4PM  TinySA - Hands on workshop on using this inexpensive but powerful pocket-sized spectrum analyzer, from basics to advanced measurments. If you have one (any version), bring it along so you can follow and participate in the demonstrations.

To follow hands on demonstrations, participants should bring a tinySA or similar instrument, a cable, and some sort of antenna, such as the one that came with it, or a WA5VJB log periodic.  A battery powered oscillator would be a good item to test – a nanoVNA would also be a good signal source.  Make sure the tinySA is charged.  A USB powerpack and cable are a good backup.

A stylus can make menu navigation easier – A pen with rubber tip at far end, or a pencil with an eraser will do fine.

If you don’t have one of these inexpensive instruments yet, R&L Electronics (www2.randl.com) is the US source for the official versions, and has specials on both units for April.  These are real test equipment, not just toys.
